Der New Yorker Wahyu Ichwandardi aka Pinot ist Animator und Illustrator. Außerdem ist er seit Jahrzehnten Apple Fan und in Besitz eines Macintosh 128K aus dem Jahr 1984. Auf dem Rechner ist MacPaint und MacroMind installiert. Mit ersterem zeichnet er Pixel für Pixel Childish Gambinos Moves aus dem This is America Video nach und anmimiert es anschließend als Stop Motion. Es ist extreme Detailarbeit, er hat aber bereits 375 Frames fertig. Im direkten Vergleich zum Clip sieht es großartig aus. Wahnsinn!

Und falls jemand ein eigenes Daumenkino draus machen möchte, stellt er die einzelnen Frames auch ausdruckbar zur Verfügung. Ich feiere das Projekt ohne Ende.

Zwei extrem niedlich gehäkelte Stofftiere sind die Protagonisten in Lost & Found. Der australische Stop Motion Film ist wirklich herzzerreissend und gleichzeitig absolut fesselnd. Der Kurzfilm hat schon diverse Awards abgeräumt, es dürften noch einige dazu kommen.

Das Making Of zeigt die Arbeit, die in jeder kleinen Bewegung steckt. Auf der Webseite zum Film gibt es noch jede Menge an Infos und sehenswerte Bildern.

Das bringt mich dazu in den Feiertagen mal wieder Paranorman und Kubo zu schauen. Zwei der krassesten Stop Motion Filme.

Der wohl blutigste Weihnachtsfilm des Jahres (oder auch jemals) kommt von 20th Century Fox. Die Filmproduktion hat einen Stop Motion Film mit den berühmten Predators vs. den Weihnachtsmann, seine Wichtel und Rentiere veröffentlicht. Allesamt bewaffnet bis unter die Zähne. Yippie kay yay Schweinebacke!

Der Stop Motion Film In a Nutshell von Regisseur Fabio Friedli fasst die menschliche Existenz zusammen. In 3000 aneinander gereihten Fotos, abgespielt in knapp 5 Minuten. Zu sehen gibt es clevere Verweise und schöne Bildsprache. Vor allem aber den ganzen Irrsinn, den wir derzeit leben und miterleben. In a Nutshell ist ebenso so aktuell, wie auch bitter. Laut Aussage des Regisseurs ein Versuch die Welt zu erfassen und ich finde, das ist hier sehr gut gelungen.

Neben den sehr gelungenen Animationen ist das Sounddesign hier ebenfalls ausgezeichnet.

To say “in a nutshell” is to use the fewest possible words. It’s a saying typically used in order to be concise, direct, and/or hyperbolic. However, things are always more complicated than just a few words. Luckily for filmmaker and animator Fabio Friedli, pictures are worth one thousand of them. In this week’s Staff Pick Premiere, “In A Nutshell,” Friedli uses 3,000 pictures in a montage that distills the story of human existence in just under five minutes and delivers a profound and moving thesis on this thing we call life.

Graffiti und Street Artist INSA hat sich auf animierte Motive spezialisiert. Er malt ein Bild, macht ein Foto, übermalt es und macht wieder ein Foto. Bis es für eine rund laufende Stop Motion Animation reicht.

In Rio de Janeiro hat er 2014 das weltweit größte animierte Graffiti der Welt, er nennt es „Space Gif-Ity“, realisiert. Beinahe 60.000 qm wurden von Insa und seinem Team in 4 Tagen gemalt und wieder übermalt.

Das Graffiti wurde von einem Satelliten aus fotografiert und die 4 aufeinander folgenden Tage zu einem Gif animiert.

“This is way bigger than anything I’ve ever done before!,” INSA told CR. “It poses a whole other level of challenges: to sketch up an image this large, but with the help of a trusty trundle wheel, rope and some mathematical equations, I worked numerous techniques that were new for me for painting on this scale.” …

“The design and planning I did on my own, a logistics team were coordinating the satellite and filming, then my assistant along with a team of 20 people were on site to help get it done.” …

“Once the work was done, we had to wait a week until the images were sent back to us from space,” INSA explains. “This was a very tense moment because we couldn’t be sure the project had worked until we overlaid all four days’ images together. Once the images were retrieved it was a simple process of overlaying them into a looping gif; for me the actual gif was made in space by the satellite – I just had to compress it fit for web viewing.”

Der 11-stöckige Turm des HESAV (Health High School Vaud) steht in Lausanne / Schweiz und wurde von Guillaume Reymond mithilfe vieler Fenster-Bediener realisiert.

Die zweite Hälfte des Clips zeigt die, sehr umfangreiche Umsetzung.

A giant human and architectural performance realized by NOTsoNOISY Guillaume Reymond and Trivial Mass. The 11 floors tower of the HESAV (Health High School Vaud) has been animated as a rudimentary screen whose pixels are, in fact, all the windows and shutters that students, staff and friends shake for hours. Das Autos mit Folie überzogen werden ist gang & gäbe. Nicht nur die matt schwarzen oder weißen Karren der Luden aufm Kiez, auch Polizei Autos und Taxen bekommen die Behandlung. Um später mal einen höheren Wiederverkaufs-Wert zu haben.

Wie genau das handwerklich abläuft, habe ich mir allerdings noch nie angesehen. Bei Ronny stieß ich gerade auf einen Stop Motion Clip, in dem ein Golf 4 foliert wird. Ohne Zweifel nett gemacht, aber nicht unbedingt sehr ansehnlich.

Daher gibt’s nach dem Klick dasselbe Prozedere mit einem Lamborghini Gallardo. Ebenfalls in Stop Motion, doch etwas schicker gedreht und ohnehin etwas mehr Zucker für die Augen.

Filmemacher JT Singh wandert durch das sehr beeindruckende Shanghai. In seinem Film setzt er Kombinationen verschiedenster Tricks und Spielereien ein.

Mal geht er rückwärts und spielt den Film dann auch rückwärts ab, sodass er normal aber doch sehr merkwürdig aussieht. Mal marschiert er in Stop Motion durch die Stadt oder beschleunigt eine Bildhälfte, während die andere in Zeitlupe läuft.

Alles in allem sehr abwechslungsreich und kurzweilig.

Regisseur und Stop Motion Animateur Peter Heacock hat mit Hilfe von Joan Kamberaj Hogwarts, die Burg aus Harry Potter nachgebaut. Allerdings nicht am Computer und virtuell in Software zusammengepuzzelt, sondern in kompletter Handarbeit aus den Seiten des „Gefangenen von Askaban„.

Das hier ist Bastel-Arbeit im ganz großen Stil, dazu hätte ich gern ein Making Of.

We are huge fans JK Rowling. So much so, that we built Hogwarts from the pages of „Prisoner of Azkaban“. Frame by frame, and over one month of work, we are proud to share our first short film with all of you.

Der kroatische Künstler Lonac hat mit seinem heArtbeats Mural eine ebenso aufwendige wie schicke Arbeit abgeliefert. Die Belüftungsrohre in dem Raum dienten ihm als Arterien, durch die das Blut gepumpt.

Insgesamt hat er für sein schlagendes Herz 6 Bilder gemalt, die anschließend als Gif animiert wurden. Richtig richtig gut!

So gut ich diesen Film von Páraic McGloughlin finde, so schwer fällt es mir ihn zu beschreiben. In mühsamer Detail-Arbeit hat McGloughlin sich durch Google Earth Satellitenaufnahmen gearbeitet. Ähnlich aussehende, von Menschen geschaffenen Strukturen wie zum Beispiel Strassen und Wohnblocks, hat er von Frame zu Frame variiert, und so einen sehr abgefahrenen Stop Motion Film erstellt.

Am besten, Ihr schaut es Euch einfach an, es lohnt ohnehin.

Vorweg gesagt, der Schuh ist nicht mein Fall. Als Collectors Item kann ich nachvollziehen, wenn man den adidas Originals x LEGO ZX 8000 ‘Bricks’ Collection feiert. Ich mag vor allem den Stop Motion Clip, der die Kollabo der beiden Giganten ankündigt.

Die Arbeitsstunden, die in diesem in diesem Projekt stecken sind für mich kaum vorstellbar. Die handgemalten Alltagsgegenstände in Wasserfarben sehen ganz individuell super aus, ich würde mir jeden davon aufhängen. Das bewegte Arrangement ist irgendwann beinah zu viel. Zu viel zu gut, zu beeindruckend.

A brush makes watercolors appear on a white sheet of paper. An everyday object takes shape, drawn with precision by an artist’s hand. Then two, then three, then four… Superimposed, condensed, multiplied, thousands of documentary drawings in successive series come to life on the screen, composing a veritable visual symphony of everyday objects. The accumulation, both fascinating and dizzying, takes us on a trip through time.
